The
other day we were getting ready to empty a large plastic container that contained
Parmesan cheese. 5 year old Ben claimed it for himself. I said, "that
will be a good container for some of your small toys. What do you want it for?" "Bugs: I can put a lot of them in there." I think you would really have to love bugs to give them a house that big! I don't, but I guess Ben does. Sometimes people are hard to love. How do you love someone that reminds you of a bug? How do you love those around you that are unlovable? 1 Thessalonians 3:12 provides a clue. Paul prayed for the Thessalonians, "may the Lord cause you to increase and abound in love for one another, and for all men, just as we also do for you." I wonder if you and I could fulfill that kind of standard. The only way it is possible is tied up in the words "may the Lord cause." We may have the desire to love everyone but it is not humanly possible. It is only when we fully realize the Love that God had for us that we can really start to show love to others in this way. God loved you so much that he gave His only Son Jesus Christ to die for you. If He had not, you and I would never be able to have eternal life. I have accepted God's great love gift of his Son, have you? You can right now by simply putting your faith in trust in Jesus. He promises to clean you of your sins and prepare a place for you in heaven.
