Turn
on your radio and find a country western station and you are bound to hear a song
of lost love. View a "soap opera" and love lost and found, and lost and found,
and lost again, is portrayed on the screen! Go to a movie, and if there is a love
theme at all, love's probably lost at least once. We all want to be loved and
most want someone to love.
Why do we have this infatuation with love? Perhaps it is because
God made us in His own image and "God is Love" (1
John 4:8). In fact, God created us, in
part, because He desired to have a creation to love and that would love Him.
Jeremiah's sad words in the 2nd chapter of his book, reveal the sting
in God's heart. Israel had wandered willfully away from the Lord. With sadness
as much as anger, God had Jeremiah say, "I remember the devotion of your youth,
how as a bride you loved me and followed me through the desert... " Israel had
walked away from the One who loved her soul.
What has drawn you away from a close walk with the Savior? Israel
was wooed by the world and fell prey to false gods. What kind of hold has the
world on you? What idols have come between you and the creator?
Now is a good time to mend that relationship and commit to staying
close from here on. The Heavenly Father graciously awaits your return.
