Give
yourself a little test. Who won the Superbowl eleven years ago? Who got first
place at the Indianapolis 500 three years ago? Who did Carter defeat for president
back in the 70's? Were you involved in those events, or perhaps excited about
the outcome? Why don't you remember them, or others like them, now?
Here's another short quiz. What person most affected you in high school?
Who was your favorite teacher? Who gave you your first romantic kiss? If you are
like most people, the second set of questions was a lot easier to answer than
the first. We are touched more permanently by the people who directly affect our
lives. The quarterback of the winning team in 1991 may have been a great guy,
but he probably didn't make a difference in your life personally.
Paul was personally and genuinely concerned about the Colossian Church.
In Chapter
2, verse 1, he indicated that he "struggled" on their behalf. Paul suffered
much because of his love and concern for the churches. If you want to make an
eternal difference in a life, you will likely have to pay a price.
True caring means you become vulnerable. God's loving care for
this fallen creation sent Jesus Christ to the Cross so you could be saved from
your sins.
