In
the U.S.A., February 14th stands out as one of the biggest card and gift
days of the year. Stores are trimmed with romantic red and sometimes there's
a new isle of just Valentine cards. Jewelry stores have sales and the teddy
bear industry gets a boost as well, all in the name of love.
We do crazy things for love. A third grade girl may hit the boy she
"loves" and forgetful husbands spend $50 for a few roses that were only $15 two
weeks earlier. Marriage is proposed in strange places and love songs get radio
time when they don't deserve it. "Love - it's the greatest!"
Love is a major theme in the Bible. There is even a book called the "Song
of Solomon" which is dedicated to romantic love. The love story of God for His
crowning creation shines from the opening book till the last chapter of Revelation.
Many love stories, both happy and tragic, are sprinkled throughout God's Word.
But there is one passage that stands out above all others.
Paul wrote "If I speak. have. give. but have not love, I gain nothing" (1 Cor.
13:1-3). Love is infinitely important, absolutely essential, and overwhelmingly
powerful. Do you know the true love of God? Read about it in His Word today.
