Our
oldest daughter, Sarah, and her husband Josh live on the Arizona desert. Recently
she wrote an interesting note about the flora in their yard. Seems that that the
only thing with any beauty growing there are some weeds. In fact, she explained,
she was cultivating the prettier ones! Some were shiny silver and blue, and others
had pretty yellow flowers.
It is easy to get proud of weeds in our lives when we think they
are the best we can do. The Bible says that the righteous things we try to do
are no better than filthy rags. It is human nature to want to wave the best we
can produce, and argue that since we have done the best we can, it should be accepted
by God. But really, our best efforts are just weeds.
Paul told the Romans, "... a righteousness apart from the Law, has
been made known... This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ...
" (Rom. 3:21-22). Paul was saying, 'Hey, you don't have to settle for weeds. True
Godly righteousness is freely given to those who trust in Jesus Christ.'
Are you just growing weeds or are you depending on Jesus Christ for
the righteousness that can stand before Almighty God? Check the garden today.
Ask God to give you His gift of righteousness, and then to make you the right-living
person He wants you to be.
