In His Steps - The Call
In His Steps-4k  ~ The Call

Scripture:

   ~
  Matthew
4:18-22

As a 3rd grader I faced a rather severe challenge to my self esteem. I tried out for a "Little League" baseball team. I had to go to the tryouts alone and remember a baseball field crawling with hopefuls like myself, many who did have a parent along.
After I was told I was too short to be a first baseman, I tried to get an outfield position. I was too short for that too. In fact, I got the impression I was just too short!
In retrospect, I am sure the tryout day was mostly a formality. The coaches already knew who they wanted on their teams. The calls had already been put in, the choices already made.
Every believer is chosen and called to respond to the most important of callings: to be a disciple (following learner) of Jesus Christ. All are needed and none will be disappointed. Jesus told his disciples of go and make more disciples (Matt. 28:18-20); that's you and me. A closer look at what Jesus meant by "disciple" reveals some exacting standards. We find Jesus is saying they must leave job and family in some cases. In Matt. 8:18-22, disciples are asked to potentially abandon comfort, and their future plans.
What's keeping you from being a true disciple? Lay it at Jesus' feet today!
