Dr.
Kornfeld at one point was the personal physician to the infamous Joseph Stalin,
dictator of the Soviet Union. He was a great Jewish doctor who had been raised
to put his total faith and trust in the communist system. However, as time went
by, Kornfeld grew to understand how ruthless Stalin was, and when Stalin tried
to appoint him to the governing body of the Soviet Union, he refused, not wanting
to just be another puppet.
For his quiet stand, Kornfeld was sent to Siberia, to a gulag
(prison for political dissidents), where he was forced to serve as a doctor to
the prisoners and guards. While there, another prisoner told him of Christ and
eventually, Kornfeld witnessed of his faith to only one other person before being
murdered in prison, Alexander Solzhenitsyn!
What can one person do? What can you do? In Judges 3, there is only
this one verse about a deliverer of Israel, Shamgar. Shamgar took what he had
in his hand, an oxgoad (basically a pointy stick) and killed 600 of Israel's enemies,
delivering Israel!
What has God put in your hand? What has he given you? Can you give
money? Can you sing or speak in public? Do you like to meet people or are you
better behind the scenes praying for those who need to know Jesus Christ personally?
You can make a difference! Offer whatever your oxgoad is to the Lord today.
