My
grass doesn't look too good lately. A definite brownish color has taken over where
it was previously green. Things have been hot here, and keeping up with watering
is almost impossible and certainly very expensive.
We have a local TV commercial that shows a man painting his
dead grass. There are days when that seems like it a good idea. Unfortunately,
it doesn't change the fact that we have poor soil and not enough rain to really
keep things greened up as we would like them.
Jeremiah records God's words when he says, "Blessed is the man who
trusts in the LORD And whose trust is the LORD. For he will be like a tree planted
by the water, that extends its roots by a stream and will not fear when the heat
comes; But its leaves will be green, and it will not be anxious in a year of drought
nor cease to yield fruit" (Jer. 17:7-8).
This passage compares our lives to that of a tree. Trusting in the
Lord is like having deep roots that reach down to abundant water. If we do not
trust in Him, the passage implies we don't have deep roots and our water supply
is likely to be inadequate.
You will come to the end of yourself, your strength and resources
early, when trials come, but you can never come to the end of God. Trust in Him!
