A
story is told that an old, tired dog wandered into the yard of a women who was
out hanging her laundry one day. He was friendly and well fed, and when she returned
to the house, he invited himself in, found a place in the hallway and took a one-hour
nap. After the nap, he went to the door wanting out, and disappeared. For several
days the dog returned, wanting in for an hour nap and then leaving again.
Finally, the women decided to pin a note to his collar explaining
what the dog was doing. The next day a different note came back on his collar
that read, "He lives in a home with eight children. He's just trying to catch
up on his sleep."
Ever feel like that dog? Are you looking for a place of peace where
you can get away? Finding that place takes effort. Getting to know the Prince
of Peace is the key. The Psalmist wrote, "O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek
you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where
there is no water" (Ps. 63:1).
Do you feel like an old dog just looking for a place to get away?
A place is good but a state of heart goes with you wherever you are. You may not
always be able to escape to a place, but you can have peace in your heart. "The
peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your
minds in Christ Jesus" (Phil. 4:7).
