Few
people have a greater reason to boast in this world than Lance Armstrong. At this
writing, he is a five-time winner of the Tour de France, that grueling and seemingly
impossible bike race all over the country of France. There were times in the most
resent race when things didn't go so smoothly. There were accidents and days when
he fell behind a little. But Lance never lost sight of his goal to win a fifth
time.
How can someone handle the great fame that attends such an overwhelming
accomplishment? Maybe you have some victories in your own life that have garnered
some notoriety. What keeps someone from getting so high up the ladder that they
can do nothing but fall off?
God's words to Israel were these:'" Let not a wise man boast of his
strength or a rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about
this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord... " (Jer. 9:23-24a).
You see, the abilities that we possess, and the mind that we have, are all only
gifts from God. For us to boast of our human abilities is to take away the glory
due the Lord. Knowing him is far more important!
Do you know where your power comes from? Humble yourself before the
Lord today and thank Him for anything you've been able to do. Give glory where
glory is due!
