Few things have more pull in
my life than certain foods. Seems like as soon as I determine that I am going
to be a "good boy" and stay away from sweets and other harmful things, someone
sets a beautiful donut in front of my nose. So much for my resolve!
Each of us has different things that tend to snag us and drag us where we
don't want to go. For some it is food. For others, the struggle may be with
TV, sex, relationships, alcohol, drugs, gossip, our own words, or even the
place of exercise in our lives. Whatever we obey, we become a slave to
(Romans 6:16).
Paul instructed the Romans concerning these kinds of things, but also
allowed us a quick glimpse into his own struggles. "For what I do is not the
good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do-this I keep on doing" (Romans
7:19). Paul even cries out and asks (v. 24), "Who will rescue me from this body
of death?" The answer, "Thanks be to God - through Jesus Christ our Lord!" (v.25).
We all struggle with sin at some level. The answer and deliverance lies
in your relationship to Jesus Christ. How's that walk today? Do what you
must to strengthen it.
