Seems a man took a job one day to
paint a church. He grossly underestimated the amount of paint it would take to
cover the structure, and realized this about halfway through the job. Figuring
no one would notice, he started thinning the paint down to make it go further.
The further along he got in the job, the more he thinned.
Finally, as he was working on the steeple,
a storm came up rather suddenly, catching him at the top and causing
him to hang on for dear
life. The pounding rain not only completely soaked him but the thinned
paint started to run,
and soon it was very obvious that he had cheated. Suddenly there was
a streak of lightening
and in the resulting thunder, the painter could hear
the voice of the Lord say, "Repaint, and thin no more!"
The heartfelt words of David in Psalm
51 reveal
a person who has repented of his terrible sin and who is seeking the
forgiveness of God. David
doesn't "thin" the sin out but instead admits his personal guilt. "...I
know my transgressions,
and my sin is ever before me. Against You
(God)... I have sinned and done what is evil." (Psalm
51:3-4).
You will gain nothing from trying to hide
your sin from God. He can see what you have done and is waiting for you
to confess it to Him
so He can extend the forgiveness you need in your relationship with Him.
Don't waste a minute walking
apart from the Lord's fellowship.
