I have
only one remaining memory of my mother's father. I remember walking out
into his backyard and towards him. I was only three when he died. He
had a big smile on his face and even though he smoked big cigars, had nearly perfectly
white teeth. My mother told me that he never had any teeth problems in his
life and attributed it to the fact that he brushed with table salt! What makes that one meeting of many the only one that still remains in my memory, is that I was walking towards a ride in his car police car. He was a small town cop! If it weren't for that one memory etched in my mind with a police-car colored "crayon," I would have to go by photographs and the stories of others to remember my grandpa Walter Ketchum. Memories are very valuable things. Among other things they can bring joy as we remember past blessings. Repeatedly in the Old Testament God reminded the people of Israel of their history. Psalm 105 starts with the line, "Oh give thanks to the Lord, call upon His Name; Make known His deeds among the people." The rest of the Psalm is a partial poetic history of Israel from Abraham to Moses. Remember God's deeds in your life and you will be encouraged. Share those deeds with others and they will be encouraged and perhaps moved to follow the Lord too.
All Scripture references are from the New American Standard Version unless otherwise noted.
