The process of putting up a small
addition on our house is complicated by building codes. Codes require numerous
things, but one important obligation is to sink footings to at least 36 inches
below the ground level. We had to dig some special holes and fill them with concrete
to do it right.
Footings
are what everything else is built on top of. If the footings are not
deep enough, freezing ground
can move the structure around. In a sense, you are creating your
own rock to build on
when you craft footings.
Foundation
footings are important in spiritual matters as well. The Lord works
in your life, starting
with belief "footings". Without these
footings Satan can rattle your house!
In Paul's
letter to the Ephesian church (Chapter
2), he lays out some of
those footings.
Verse 1
tells us we were spiritually dead. We are made alive by God's mercy
and love (verses
4-5). God raises
us up and seats us with Christ (verse
6).
Verses 8 and 9 tell of the
grace that makes salvation
possible.
Verse 10 explains why
He is bothering to do all of this.
You can
thank God today that He cares enough about you to prepare the right
footings in your life. Because
He has done this, we can stand the test of trials, storms,
and the earthquakes of life.
