Do
you have a place of escape, a quiet place you can go to try and find some personal
peace? Modern society has made it harder than ever to escape the constant onslaught
of peace stealing activity and sound. Now we have the luxury of doing business
on a cell phone while we drive to and from other peace stealing opportunities.
It is hard to escape.
The world is seeking peace too. I am not sure if there is any less
peace per capita now days than 200 years ago, but we certainly have a lot better
means of hearing about the disruptions. According to the Bible, real lasting
world peace will come only with the return of Jesus Christ.
Paul gave an equation for personal peace to the Philippians. Phil.
4:7 reads, "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard
your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Leading up to that conclusion, Paul
exhorted the readers to go with a double does or intentional rejoicing, a controlled
gentleness in the face of trials, anxiousness replaced with prayer, and deliberate
thanksgiving.
The implications are that the person who has this attitude pattern
will experience the peace of God. Do you regularly experience the peace of God?
Try Paul's equation.
