We
have informed our children that we are not the only ones who are concerned about
their upbringing. They are hereby on notice that God is also interested in what
happens to them. Consequently, we have been talking to the Lord about this and
have come to a conclusion. He wants us to pray that they will get caught!
What this means is that we don't have to be with them 24 hours
a day, watching over their shoulders. God always knows what they are up to, so
we don't have to. We are praying that if they want to dabble in alcohol or drugs,
they will get caught. If they are going to drive dangerously, a police officer
will see them. If they want to drift into immorality, they will be found out.
Jonah was one Bible character who got caught running away from
God's will. He took a boat west instead of walking east. After an altercation
with a God-sent storm, Jonah found himself in the belly of a great fish. There
he thanked God. (verse
9) "But I will sacrifice to You with a voice of thanksgiving. That which
I have vowed I will pay. Salvation is from the Lord."
You should be thankful when you are caught by God. It shows
that He cares enough about you to pursue you and bring you back to Himself. Have
you thanked God recently for getting caught?
