Towards
the end of an episode of a once very popular TV drama, a confrontation takes place
between the good guy and the bad guy. The bad guy taunts and ridicules the hero.
A gun is leveled and a shot fired as the screen goes black. We don't see what
happened but are left with a startling notionŽ the "hero" just executed the bad
guy!
The good guy using bad guy tactics is now not an uncommon TV
scene. The result is, at the very least, the viewer is tempted to reconsider if
doing right all the time is necessary if good results from a wrong.
Everyday holiness should be a concern for the follower of Christ.
Some were suggesting that Paul's teaching may lead people to do bad things that
God might show His holiness in a greater way. (verse
8).. Paul's condemnation of their assertion
is strong!
Have you ever been tempted to do wrong to bring about a right?
That is a satanic ploy. God never does any evil to bring about good. Neither should
we.
Keeping yourself holy in the everyday practical sense requires
some effort. You are to "count yourself dead to sin but alive to God in Christ
Jesus" (Romans
6:11 ). You may need to "flee" as Paul
told Timothy (2
Timothy 2:22). You should daily
seek to "walk by the Spirit" (Galatians
5:16 ) to avoid carrying out the desires
of the flesh.
