Our
dog Oreo loves to go for walks with us. He waits at the yard gate every morning
in anticipation of getting to be a part of the escort of our children to the school
bus stop. His whole body exhibits his enthusiasm.
Part of the ritual of his walk, whether handled by my wife Bonita
or me, is that he is turned loose while he is on the church property as we walk
toward the bus stop. Crossing the road and at the stop, he has to be on a leash.
He is usually pretty obedient.
Today I tried an experiment to see how far the obedience would
go. I told Oreo to sit and then walked away. I went over 100 feet before I turned
and told him he could come. His whole mind was occupied with watching for the
call, and when it came there was another explosion of excitement.
Verse
2 says that we are, "saints by calling." In other words,
we don't work our way to that title. It is what God calls us to. There is no Biblical
list of steps to becoming a saint. Whether you like it or not, if you have started
a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, you are "Saint (fill in
here with your name)".
Oreo is very enthusiastic about his simple life and a call from
his master. How do you respond to the call from your Master? He calls you to holiness
and love. Why not run joyfully toward
Him today?

Standard Version unless otherwise noted.
