I
keep a rather extensive calendar on my computer, which updates to a small device
called a Pocket PC. In doing so I can keep track of my schedule and access information
such as phone numbers and addresses with much greater ease. I try not to live
by it, but just use it as a tool to keep me organized.
We also have a printed family calendar with beautiful pictures that
my wife enjoys, hanging in our kitchen area. This is how she keeps track of what
she is supposed to be doing. But in order for the household to operate smoothly,
those two calendars must agree. So I give her a list of my plans and copy hers
to my electronic system.
Planning is good. God blesses planning and organization. But something
else is more critical to accomplishing what God would have Bonita or me do. We
have to start with what God wants. Proverbs
3:5-6 says, "Trust in the LORD with
all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge
Him, and He shall direct your paths."
As a follower of Christ, you and I should put first things first.
Don't start your planning with what you think you should be doing FOR God, start
with your relationship TO Him. If you do, He promises to "direct" or smooth out
your path, because you will have His agenda on your calendar.
