In
the days of the old west in the USA, many hardened criminals who had killed people
in the process of a crime had a special price put on their heads. If society
had gone past the point of any tolerance, and the "bad guy" had already been
sentenced to death, their wanted posters might say, "Reward - Wanted Dead or
Alive!" If you were able to turn them or their body in, you could collect a reward.
The Bible tells us that we are wanted people as well. We are wanted "dead
AND alive". In this passage Paul points out to his Roman readers that Jesus Christ
had died to sin and was now alive. God wants us to do the same. Verse 11 says, "In
the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus." So,
we are wanted dead and alive.
According to Scripture you cannot truly be alive to both. If you are
still alive to sin, you are not going to live as alive to Christ. You are
called on to make a choice. Who are you going to live for? Will you live
for the world, self and sin, or will you live for Jesus Christ?
You are wanted dead and alive. Will you turn yourself in today?
All Scripture references are from the New American
Standard Version unless otherwise noted.
