I got an email chain letter the other day; one of those 'if you don't pass this along, someone is going to die' kind.  The letter first grabs attention with the story of a young lady who deleted her copy of the letter rather than passing it along and later that day her fiancé died.  Several other scary stories follow.
Why did I just trash mine?  Not only does common sense say that a million other folks DIDN'T die when they didn't pass along the letter, but the God of the universe has revealed Himself through His one and only Son, Jesus Christ, so I don't have to fear.  John 3:16 in the Bible says, "God so loved the world (that's you and me) that He gave His one and only son, that whosoever (you or me) that believes in Him, would not perish but have everlasting life."
Whether or not a family member or myself dies in the next few days is in God's hands.  I trust Jesus Christ that Satan cannot touch me unless God allows for some purpose of His own.  I also echo Paul's words, "For me to live is Christ and to die is gain" (Philippians 1:21). I can't lose!
Finally, 1 John 4:18 says, "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love."  I choose not to act out of fear because "whatever is not from faith is sin" (Romans 14:23).
How about you?  Does a threatening chain letter scare you?  Following Christ means you can throw it away.
