Oreo
is our very friendly family dog. If you walk out the door, he is stretching at
his chain, wanting to get close enough so you can pet him. If he is loose,
he is dangerous... if you're allergic to dog slobber! He has still got a lot of
puppy in him even though he weighs more than fifty pounds.
Recently I took him along to the office. As I settled
into working at the computer, I had him lie down about ten feet from me. Each
time I looked up over the next several minutes he was just a bit closer.
I would command him back but he never backed up as much as he had crept forward.
Finally, when he was within about four feet I caught him
doing the "Lassie crawl" like some soldier crawling under barbwire. Although
I'm not crazy about his creeping, I do appreciate his enthusiasm!"
One of Paul's most inspiring statements is in Philippians 3:10. Referring to Christ he says, "that I
may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings!"
There is an enthusiasm for just wanting to get closer to Jesus, to really
know Him with an ever-deepening relationship; to creep closer to His presence
all the time. The Lord doesn't find this the least bit annoying
He wants us to be close to Him. That's why man was created, to willingly
fellowship with the Eternal God! He wants us near, seeking answers, happy
in His presence, always desirous of and active in getting closer to Him.
How's your drive to know Jesus? Are other things that
the world offers constantly distracting you from that goal? Why not tug at the
chains holding you back right now and make an effort to sit at His feet?

Version unless otherwise noted.
