The bags were packed and the van
was clean. All we had to do to leave for our short vacation trip to Yellowstone
last June was load and go. However a check over of the vehicle revealed that a
small sticker stood in the way of our driving off. No, it wasn't blocking the
drive. Our van's license plate was set to expire at midnight on May 31, the very
day we wanted to leave. But May 31 was also Memorial Day, and the office where
we needed to get the sticker was closed.
Making choices when it comes to ice cream or
the color of your car can be fun because there is no right or wrong involved.
But what about a complicated
situation where right answer isn't real clear? In our case we knew
if our plates were
checked the fine was minimal and maybe we would even be forgiven under
the circumstances?
The family needed and deserved the vacation. We were still going to pay
for the little sticker
no matter what. No one would be hurt. But
rationalizing wasn't what we felt comfortable with.
Paul presented a tough dilemma with
two right answers to his friend Philemon when he sent a now converted
run-away slave back
to him. It was legal and "right" for Philemon to have the slave Onesimus
punished for his running
and stealing. But Paul wanted Philemon to consider the situation on a
spiritual plane when
making his decision (verses
15 - 16).
Do you consider your responsibility to
God when you make decisions?
Seek God in decision-making. Don't just go
by what seems right and logical. He wants to give you
divine and spiritual wisdom for your decisions.!
