I have great organizational skills...
I justcan't remember where I left them! My desk is currently a collection of piles
that have some meaning but occasionally cause avalanche warnings to be posted
on my office door. It seems like there is an endless stream of mail and materials
needing my attention, phone calls to answer and things I should be doing around
our home. I have to ask myself, 'just exactly what is my job here?'
Maybe you have the same problem. If you
run your world from your kitchen counter or from a desk, checkout counter
or the front seat of
a car, you probably get caught up in doing things that
you really don't consider your "main thing."
Paul apparently knew of such a fellow in
the Colossian church. There is a very personally pointed note at the end
of the letter (verse
17). "Say
to Archippus, "Take heed to the ministry which you have received
in the Lord, that you
may fulfill it." I figure Archippus had a desk problem like
mine.
When Satan can't eliminate us he often tries
to dilute us by getting us focused on everything unimportant. This can
take the form of anything
from mail (or email) to organizations completely loosing their focus.
Like Archippus we need to do the work God has called us to individually.
What's your ministry?
You have to be on guard for those sneaky undercurrents like those that
drown river crossers.
Not being vigilant will mean victory for Satan. Don't get underwhelmed!
