We have
one clear, cut glass dinner plate, different from all the rest that we use daily.
It has a little more flare and gets set on the table only occasionally. Someplace
along the line Bonita picked it up at a second-hand store for one reason, it's
special!
The special plate comes out on special occasions. Not just
when we have something to celebrate but when we are celebrating someone. If one
of the kids comes home from school with a notable accomplishment, he or she gets
to use the special plate. They are honored and set apart because of their deed.
God sets His people apart in a special way. Paul finished his
letter with a prayer for the Thessalonians that they would experience a specific
kind of setting apart. (v.
23a) "Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely." Sanctification
is defined as "separation from the secular and sinful and setting apart for a
sacred purpose." Among Paul's last words for the Thessalonians and for us is that
we be used and viewed as special.
Consider this, God has called you to be his child and that
makes you very special. Now, choose today to act like it. Decide not to get down
in the gutter with the devil's kids. You're a Child of the King. You are no longer
under the power of sin.
You choose sin because of the old family ties. Satan would
lie to you and say you can't win, but the Holy Spirit stands ready in your life
to give you victory! It isn't easy, but nothing really worthwhile is!
