I listened to a dramatization of the life of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a "confessing
church" leader who was killed under Hitler's reign in Germany. Dietrich and
many true believers in Germany tried with little visible success to resist and
stop the satanic onslaught of the Third Reich.
The church was ineffective because most members wouldn't stand
against the tyranny for fear of losing their own lives. If the church as a whole
had taken a stand, history might have been written differently.
As believers, we are called upon to stand firm and resist the
devil. Note Peter's admonition and observation in 1
Peter 5:8 & 9...."Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a
roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing
that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren
who are in the world." James
4:7 says the Devil will "flee" from you when you resist. We don't have
to run from him. We don't even have to fight him, only resist.
Instead of giving in to temptation or Satan's attacks today,
resist. He cannot stand against you when you resist in Jesus name and power. You
and Jesus are a majority! He will give you the strength and help you in your battle
with fear. You can stand firm with Jesus beside you.
