I often feel peace when I visit
the residence of an elderly person. The pace of the household is slower, the TV
isn't as likely blaring, nor is there some modern radio tune saturating the atmosphere.
A stuffed pillow greets me on a comfortable couch and I wonder if I am going to
become too relaxed and take to yawning.
1999 was not a peaceful year. Wars erupted
and nations were in turmoil. Thousands have died because of ruthless leaders.
The Y2K bug caused
a great deal of uncertainly and literally cost billions of dollars to
squash. Now some are
concerned about the special leap year we are in and how it will affect
computers. The weather
seems stranger and things are still a mess in the Middle East. Peace may
flee us.
Some peaceful folks would seem to have
little worldly reason to be peaceful. They have lost spouses and children,
been short of money
and their health prospects don't look good. Yet, there is still a peaceful
atmosphere. From where
does it originate?
God's Word talks about peace in many
places but Paul's benediction blessing on the Ephesian people really sums
it up. "Peace
be to the brethren... from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ."
Stable peace comes
from a truly external source.
Get to know the otherworldly source
of peace. Peace comes from knowing its Originator, the Prince of Peace,
Jesus Christ.
His peace surpasses all earthly understanding!
