When
I try to pick out a birthday card
or event-recognition card, I suffer a certain amount of turmoil. I examine
the words carefully
because I just hate to extend some sentiment that I really don't mean.
I steer away from "Best
Wishes" as it isn't very specific. Plus, I'm not much for wishing, I believe
God is in control.
I believe I should pray specifically or bless someone
specifically if my sentiments are to really mean anything.
At the end of the anonymous letter to
the Hebrews the writer shares a protracted benediction with his readers.
Look at what he invokes
as his desires for their blessing: "Now the God of peace...equip you in
every good thing to
do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight..." (Hebrews
13:20 + 21)
The emphasis on God's will and not on
what I might think is best is noteworthy. For the Christian to truly be
happy and blessed, he
must accept what God has for him.
Meditate on this passage and pray about
what God desires for you. Will you make yourself available for Jesus to
work His way in your
life? The Bible teaches that He will equip you for whatever he calls you
to do. If what you
are doing is not pleasing to Him, you know it isn't what He wants you
to do!
Make your life a sacrifice of service to Jesus. You
will never regret it!
