As
far as I am concerned, one of the hardest things to do as a parent is to sort
out who is right. When two kids that you love very much come rushing towards
you, each claiming the other has done some dastardly deed, who do you believe?
In our family, God has gifted my wife with a lot more discernment
along those lines. So when it falls to me, I try to find witnesses. A
witness is someone who is supposed to tell what they know. Usually, a quick
check of testimony and a proper judgment can be made.
There are several places in the Bible where illustrations from the courtroom are
used. And to bring the message of God's love to the Roman world, His writers
sometimes used court terminology. 1
John 5:11 says, "... the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal
life, and this through his Son." I would certainly be remise
if I claim that I possess the Love of God in my heart and didn't testify to you
that you must put your faith and trust in God's Son,Jesus Christ, in order to
have eternal life and go to heaven. You may want to argue against that simple
statement, but the argument is with God and His Word, not me. No amount of good
works, church attendance, giving or self-sacrifice will earn you heaven. (Ephesians
2:8-9) As a testimony of God's love I must tell
you, "God so loved the world, that He
gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but
have eternal life." (John
3:16)
