Not
long after graduating from Bible College, I worked for about a year for
a steel construction company. After having spent 3 years surrounded by nothing
but Christians, I had to face a situation where some were hostile toward
my faith. No one else who worked in the shop was a believer so we had some
rather interesting encounters at times.
On one occasion, after hurting myself on the job, a fellow
taunted me suggesting that I surely must want to curse because of the pain!
My walk with Jesus Christ kept that from even coming to mind. Sometimes
it was very lonely in that steel shop.
Daniel had to stand alone as he received a message from
God. Verse
7 tells us he saw a vision and those that were with him "ran to hide
themselves." A dread had fallen on them, probably indicating that they were
not believers like Daniel. It fell on Daniel to be God's representative
not only to the Meades and Persians, but also to all mankind.
Standing alone is one of the callings of a Christian. We sometimes
have to stand alone for what is right in the face of an unfriendly world. Later
in the chapter, Daniel was encouraged twice with heavenly contacts. Be encouraged:
God will always supply the encouragement and support you need to stand alone for
Him.
