Raising
kids from family to family has a lot of similarities. If they are out playing
or hanging with other kids, they are going to occasionally do things they
aren't supposed to. With that scenario one of the classic verbal lines in
defense of wrong actions is "everybody's was doing it."
Millions of people lost their lives under Nazi domination
because of that attitude. Some said, 'I never really thought about what
we were doing to the Jews. Everybody supported the government.' Uncountable
numbers of young people have become entrapped in drugs and other self-destructive
behavior because "everybody is doing it."
The three fellows we know as Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego
in
Daniel 3 didn't think much of that argument. When choices had to be
made, they were literally the only ones left standing for God. When their
lives were threatened as a result, they said (verse
3: 17-18 part) "God . . . is able to deliver us. . . But even if He
does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve
your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up."
Not everyone who made a choice like these three survived
the threat. Sometimes God allows the price to be paid. What will you do
when the choice is between what God wants and what "everybody is doing?"
