As you ride comfortably down the highway, the car is loaded to the gills, air conditioning is running all out, it's a long way to the next gas station, and you are looking forward to being at home in bed tonight.  Then you hear the dreaded noise and have a sinking feeling. Your rear tire just went flat. Your first reaction may be, "why is this happening to me?"
Life is full of little unplanned, unwanted side trips.  One of those is certainly a flat tire.  (The spare is kept under the floor of the trunk, under all your stuff!).
In the Christian life we  KNOW  that all things work together for good, but it may be hard to see good in some circumstances.  You might imagine how Paul's friends would have felt at his imprisonment.  But on one occasion Paul wrote, "Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel..." (Philippians 1:12).  Paul wrote those words from prison.  I am sure his side trip was not planned and not desired.  Yet his attitude is one that recognizes the sovereignty of God.
God doesn't make mistakes.  If He allows you to experience a certain trial, perhaps it is for the "greater progress of the Gospel."  Having an attitude like that will give you peace and help you to look around for how that Gospel might be furthered.
Watch and see, side trips are an opportunity for God to work!
