I was home with our two small boys recently while their mother was substitute teaching.  I brought my study materials to the house with me so I could try to make good use of the time while "just sitting around."  About all I ended up getting out of my study material was the exercise of carrying it!
I thought maybe I would help with a bit of cleaning while I had the chance, but the wax I needed was almost all gone.  I tried to help Ben over a couple of chairs and managed to cause him to fall and bust his lip open!  That little event made it necessary for me to hold him for a while and put up with two showings of his favorite video.  Naps were late and so were we to our afternoon appointment.
First Samuel, chapter one leads off with a person facing a trial.  Hannah was a godly woman who desired children more than anything else.  But the Bible says "the Lord had closed her womb."  On top of that she was regularly ridiculed for her barrenness.
Why would God allow such a thing?  The answer is found in the narrative.  God wanted Hannah to dedicate her future son to His service.  He wanted a special servant who would become one of the most notable characters of Scripture.  Without her difficulties, things would have been a lot different.
Remember, God allows trials for a reason.  Expect trials and look for how Jesus Christ is working in your life.  Ask for wisdom from the Lord so that you might see how His hand is at work, even when you are experiencing trials.
