Did
you know the size of Space Shuttle solid rocket boosters are based on the width
of Roman horse behinds? Its true. Roman chariots were made to be pulled
by horses. Consequently, their wheel ruts were about 4 feet, 8.5 inches apart.
The Romans made and rutted many of the early roads in Europe. Later
generations made their wagon wheels set the same distance apart so the wouldn't
have trouble on those roads. When trains and railroads came
into being they kept the width. When space manufacturer, Thiokol in Utah,
designed the rocket boosters they had to be shipped by railroad, including through
some rather tight fitting tunnels, so they had to make the rockets fit the railroad
tracks. Therefore, space shuttle solid rocket boosters are based on the
size of horses' behinds! Conformity to the old for conformity's
sake can have far reaching consequences. You can get stuck in a rut forever.
Paul said "do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by
the renewing of your mind." (Romans
12:2) The world would rather you stayed in the same rut they are
in. The world would rather you were controlled by sin and fear too so they
wouldn't feel so convicted. How deep are the ruts you are
in? Want to get out? Look to the Lord Jesus Christ for deliverance
and a new track. 'His mercies are new every morning; great is His faithfulness'
(Lamentations
3:22-23)
