As
I sit at my computer today, I am sporting a nice little scab that shows easily
through my thinning hair. A few days ago I reached for something that had fallen
on the floor of my office and not so daintily whacked my head against the corner
of a shelf. Looking at it now, I wonder how I even got close enough to hit my
head.
We have several such protruding corners in our kitchen. Given the likelihood
that someone will contact those spots in a bad way, we try to have them covered
with rubbery protective bumper things. Even if you know there is danger at those
points, eventually you will run into them because your mind is focused on something
else.
Spiritual mindset is a repeated topic in the Bible. Paul exhorted
the Colossian saying, "If you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the
things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind
on things above, not on the things that are on the earth" (Colossians
3:1-2.)
The cause of my little headache was my lowered focus to the
point of forgetting what was above my head. It is so easy to focus only on the
world and forget that God says our focus should be on the eternal things above.
What will you do today to focus your heart where it ought to be? Prayer, reading
the Bible and meditating on God's Word
is a good start!
