The
"Star Wars" saga of movies features an ongoing battle between good and evil. The
evil Emperor, with people like Darth Vader under his control, seeks to rule everyone
out of an apparent desire of absolute power. He has a total disregard for any
individual rights or needs. His twisted will dictates the lives of billions of
beings while not caring anything about anyone but himself.
Life is full of "masters" like "The Emperor." Some of them are people;
most are things and pleasures. We sometimes willingly sell our souls to our jobs,
our possessions, drugs, money, and relationships. The only way to not be a slave
of such things is to turn ourselves over to a power that does have our best interest
at heart.
As Paul shared with the Colossians he reminded them that they
were servants of "the Lord Christ" (verse
3:24). If you profess to be a Christian, your Master
should also be Jesus Christ.
You may have the idea that you will be no one's servant. However,
the Bible indicates, as does simple observation, that we all serve someone or
something. Even if you "bow to no man," you will become a slave to your own passions
and desires. Unless you choose to place yourself under the Lordship of Jesus Christ,
you will serve a master that does not truly love you. What or who will you serve
today?
