There
is an ongoing controversy about the use of cell phones while driving. People are
not paying attention to their driving, and accidents have happened because of
distractions from cell phone usage. When I am driving, I know mine likes to ring
at bad times. I try not to let it distract me but a phone ringing is hard for
me to ignore.
The problem with talking on a cell phone while behind the wheel
is that you are supposed be devoted to paying attention to the road. If you have
a mind that cannot easily multitask, talking on the cell phone can be dangerous.
I like to THINK I can handle more than one thing at a time, but I'm not sure handling
a phone while driving is a good combination.
Paul called on the Colossian church to remember to devote themselves
to prayer (Colossians
4:2). Along with that thought, he exhorted them
to be alert and keep an attitude of thanksgiving. In modern terms Paul believed
we should multitask but have a strong focus on prayer. When other things distract
us from prayer, its time to hang up on the world and focus on God.
What consumes your thinking and your time? What are you devoted
to? As a follower of Christ, you should remember that your communication with
God is very important to Him. If you do not devote yourself to prayer you will
miss many of God's greatest blessings and may find yourself piled up along the
road of life.
