In
our society, each newborn child goes through the ritual of getting their name,
usually within a week of their birth. When Daniel, our youngest, was born in a
hospital, he was given an identification band around his foot. On it they put
that he was a male and who his doctor was. In place of putting his name, they
wrote in his mother's name. On the hospital bill, which came addressed to me,
it said it was for "Baby Ullrich." When Daniel got his birth certificate it had
his name on it but still showed that he is our child. That identifier remains
permanently on his birth certificate except under unusual legal circumstances.
As Christians, our identity is based on who God is. The label,
Christian, identifies us with Christ. In verse
4, we read, "You are from God, little children,
and have overcome them; because greater is He that is in you than he that is in
the world." We may live in this world but are not technically part of this world.
We are a part of God's family.
Our ability to overcome the anti-Christ spirits of this life
is based solely on our relationship to Jesus Christ. It is because of Whose we
are and who we are in Christ that we can have victory in this world. We are really
like a newborn child. Our identity is founded in Who birthed us.
You are God's child. Thank the Lord you have your identity because
of new birth in Jesus. Now, live your life accordingly!
