A
baby sparrow landed outside my window the other day and started making quite a
bit of racket. It had just left the nest and could barely fly. I watched as a
dark figure appeared next to the little creature. The distressed chirping had
attracted the attention of our dog. I knew that in the next few seconds, the bird
could die!
I hollered authoritatively at our pet and he quietly walked away
from the situation. For just a moment I was in charge of that little bird's life.
I called Bonita and she escorted the young flyer to a safer part of the yard.
How easy it is to worry over how we are going to provide the everyday
needs of life. But we should not. In this passage of Scripture, Jesus' words remind
us of our value. A sparrow does not die without the Heavenly Father's notice (Matthew
10:29). Jesus reminded His disciples that birds don't have to harvest or gather;
yet God takes care of them. Jesus declared God's children to be worth more than
birds (verse 26).
What do you worry about? Finances got you down? Not sure if
your car will make it much longer? Wondering how a relationship is going to work
out? In all of these earthly things we need to trust the Lord. It is a developed
mindset. You have to make a decision to seek first His Kingdom and let God have
those needs (verse 33).
