We
just survived what I am hoping is the biggest snowstorm of our lives. More than
five feet of wet heavy snow fell over a three-day period, shutting down our normal
activities and causing a lot of damage. A drive through town showcased hundreds
of damaged or down trees, collapsed roofs on business structures, stranded, powerless
folks and buried vehicles. Our storage shed collapsed under the relentless weight.
It is amazing what a few snowflakes can do!
Scientists say they have never discovered two snowflakes exactly
alike. Most of us don't own scales that are sensitive enough to even weigh one
flake. Yet when billions and trillions of the little things get together, they
have tremendous weight and power.
Christ established His church, also referred to as the Body of Christ,
with its parts being individual Christians. Like snow, if we are separated or
serving the Kingdom on our own, we are not very effective or powerful, compared
to what we can accomplish together.
Paul explained in 1
Corinthians 12 that the members of the
Body (followers of Christ) need each other. When we work together there is much
greater power and effectiveness. As snow builds and becomes overwhelming, so the
Spirit of God seems to move with ever-greater impact when Christians pray and
work together.
Don't be flakey! Service Christ with others.
