A
r ecent cartoon quip asked something like. "What do you call a species where the
mothers will eat their young?" Answer: "Endangered!" In the animal kingdom, it
is astounding to observe the variety of ways creatures and their parents interact.
God's creation includes life that does everything from lay them and leave them
to birth them and destroy them. Some animal babies come into this world and are
totally ignored while others, the mother literally carries until it can be totally
on its own.
The most powerful class of humans on this earth is mothers! My mother
influenced my upbringing in ways my father never could. For those of you that
had no-so-good mothers, they may have negatively influenced you in lasting ways.
Paul reminded Timothy of his heritage when he wrote, "I am mindful
of the sincere faith
within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice." (verse
5). Paul was reminding Timothy so that he could spur him on to greater faith
and commitment based on where he came from. He knew of the positive influence
of Tim's mother and grandmother.
"The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world." So whether you
are a mother or have any contact with a woman who is, you have the power to influence
the future. Let's encourage those who take on this awesome job.
