Here
are a few off-the-wall excuses you could use for not going to work: "I just found
out that I was switched at birth. Legally, I shouldn't come to work knowing my
employee records may contain false information." Or how about, "I am stuck in
the blood pressure machine down at the grocery store"? Or this clincher, "I can't
come in to work today because I'll be stalking my previous boss, who fired me
for not showing up for work. Okay?"
More often we have more sane excuses like, "I'm sick" or "the car
is broke down." Hopefully, yours are all valid and truthful.
God also asks us to report for duty but many are prone to excuses.
Those often take the form of, "I can't, I'm scared," or "I'm too busy." The classic
one however is, "I am not able."
Paul was faced with a limitation that must have made him question
if he could go on with his calling. He wrote of having an affliction he called
"a messenger of Satan" (verse
7) . He repeatedly asked God to take
away the problem, but God said to him, "øMy grace is sufficient for you, for power
is perfected in weakness."
Excuses for not doing what God has asked of us aren't supportable.
In fact, getting to the point of saying, "I can't alone but I can with your power"
is exactly what God wants.
What "can't" you do today?
