In
one of the most famous episodes of the old sitcom "WKRP in Cincinnati", a couple
of the radio station crew stage a publicity stunt for a store. Live turkeys are
dropped from a hovering helicopter over the store's parking lot. The idea was
that people would capture their own turkey and have it for Thanksgiving dinner.
The stunt turns disastrous because domesticated turkeys can't fly (their wings
are clipped)! Reporter "Les Nessman" covered the event live from the ground. His
report sounds like the famous radio report of the Hindenburg disaster!
Eagles fly, even wild turkeys don't fly much and certainly don't
soar. Isaiah illustrates what it is like to have a close relationship with the
Lord. He says, "... those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; They will
mount up with wings like eagles... "
Someone has quipped, "It is hard to soar with eagles when you work
with turkeys." We live in a world with a lot of people who have no desire to soar.
If you are not aware, you will be grounded with the rest of humanity, never soaring
to the heights God in-tended.
Isaiah says that soaring like an eagle starts with "waiting on" or
"hoping in" the Lord. Why not take some time today to be quiet and seek God? Why
not listen for His voice to speak to you? It will raise you to new and lofty heights
in your walk with God.
