As our great yard landscaping project
continues, we have been preparing to plant grass. Growing grass is challenging
here. For those of you that live where you have to cut it more than once a week,
you may have a hard time remembering all aren't so "blessed."
Planting
grass seed in our area takes a lot of groundwork. I ran a rototiller over
the new lawn area-to-be
several times. This was not just to soften up the ground, but to reveal
and reduce the number
of rocks. The tiller unearths them as I go. Some are rather large, weighing
5 pounds or more.
Each
of those rocks are like the hidden gems of blessing and wisdom to be
found in the Bible. Paul
wrote to Timothy telling him "all Scripture is inspired by God and is
profitable for teaching,
for reproof, for correction, for training
in righteousness" (2
Timothy 3:16).
You don't get
all those benefits from the Word of God by using it as a dust magnet on
your shelf or coffee
table. God's Word must be opened, tilled, sorted and absorbed.
You need to take daily
time to read and memorize it to get the full effect of what it can do
in your life.
What's
your tilling practice for the Scriptures? Satan will keep you from the
Word or the Word will
help you win over sin and defeat him. It's work to till the Word of God,
but the result is growing
blessing.
All Scripture references are from the New American Standard
Version unless otherwise noted.
