One of the current learning projects
in our home involves growing some plants on our deck and in the living room. Ben
and Daniel planted and are nurturing beans and peas. If you've ever watched a
bean plant grow you may know that they emerge from the ground often with leaves
already unfurling.
Daniel's
plant was doing just that when he first discovered the growth. Since his
mother had carefully
instructed him to cover the seed, Daniel thought his watering had uncovered
something that should
be covered. He was caught tucking the leaves back into the
ground!
In numerous
places, the Word of God teaches that we are to grow spiritually. Satan
attempts to keep us
from growing as we should. Sometimes others around us attempt to stunt
our growth. They may
try to tuck our "leaves" of growth back under the soil.
St. Peter wrote,
"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ." (verse
18a). Our growth
takes personal effort and commitment.
How's
your spiritual growth? Nurturing your spiritual growth means you need
to plan to read the
Word, pray, attend church, and fellowship with other believers. If you
want to mature spiritually,
grow towards the Son. In so doing you will become more like Jesus!

Version unless otherwise noted.
