For many, the winter of 2001 will
always be remembered for the lack of power. Millions of people, especially in
California, had to suffer through some dark times as electricity came into short
supply. Some people were stuck in elevators for as much as an hour awaiting the
invisible juice to come back through the line so the doors would open.
If you have
ever experienced a power outage you understand how frustrating it
can be. Using my computer
without electricity is challenging. No matter how hard you
type, nothing shows on the
screen! We take power for granted. We just turn on the light switch
and we have light. But
unless there is a strong and consistent source of power, the lights
will go out.
True spiritual power
also requires such a source. In
Acts 1:8, Jesus' words are recorded
when He says, "you
will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon
you." Jesus spoke of the
power of God. In order to be a witness for the Lord, you must appropriate
the power given you
by God. If you try to work for the Lord in your own flesh, you
will never accomplish
all that God wants you to.
Don't suffer
a power shortage. Go to the Lord for spiritual power; don't try
to make it on your own.
You can neither live the Christian life nor serve Jesus Christ without
His power operating in your life.

Version unless otherwise noted.
