We live in the Communication Age.
Everyplace you go there are people carrying and using wireless phones, pagers,
and portable computers. Today you can check the Stock Market or your team's score
with little handheld devices while you sit in a movie theater watching something
prepared with few live actors, digital effects and realistic sound.
We use
the phone a lot to make arrangements and check on how our church
people are doing. We also
get a lot of calls. One recently was caught by our answering machine.
The church member had
simply called to thank us for being who we are and ministering
to our church! She
didn't want anything but to pass along a little blessing
and encouragement. That's
a great use for a phone!
The writer
of Hebrews exhorted, "But encourage one another day after day, as long
as it is still called
'Today' so that none of you will be
hardened by the deceitfulness of sin."
He knew the great value
of taking time to encourage
each other. He said it would actually help
in the battle against
the "deceitfulness of sin."
Today you
could pick up the phone and call someone with a bit of encouragement
that might mean eternal
blessings to that person. It
is such a small thing but you could
have marvelous impact!

Version unless otherwise noted.
