Because
of the information age we live in, the very mention of a one-word name will
often conjure up feelings and maybe even a picture in your mind.
George, Homer, Madonna, Gracie (if you're a more vintage individual) may
instantly call to mind the President of the United States, an inane cartoon
character, a singer and a deceased comedian. Think Coke, Kool-Aid, Clorox,
or Kleenex, and pictures, smells or flavor memories might pass through your
mind. Each is a brand name that has almost become generic for other similar
products.
When advertisers or entertainers choose a name, they want something
that
is memorable. They strive to make it a "household word" so that the mention of
it is a tiny advertisement, whether it be in a broadcast or in the lines of an
article like this.
When God sent His Son into the world, He chose some descriptive
names so we would have a better understanding of what the incarnation was all
about.
Isaiah prophesied the coming of a Messiah who would be "Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God, Eternal Father, and Prince of Peace." (Is. 9:6) God also wanted us
to know that He would be "Immanuel, which translated means, "GOD WITH US." (Matthew
1:23)
Additionally, God directed Mary and Joseph to name their baby "Jesus," which
means "Savior." God truly wanted us to get the message whenever we
hear The Name.
Everything is in a Name when that Name belongs to the Son of God.
Jesus
is the Name that started Christmas. Make sure you truly remember His name
this Christmas.
