Several
years ago we made our annual pilgrimage back to our home area in Illinois to see
family. Christmas was the only time we got to see some of them for an entire year.
Personally, I don't handle being crowded and overfed very well. It seems it is
often hard to just find a quiet place to sit and vegetate. But that trip four
years ago turned out to be the last we would gather at my parents' house. The
few ill feelings about the crowdedness and lack of privacy don't really seem to
matter anymore.
When the shepherds of Luke 2 were visited by the angels, or
when they crowded into the small stable to peer in wonder at the eternal spectacle
in the manger, nothing else really mattered. Something all-important was before
them. God was visiting man!
What is important to you this year as Christmas comes and goes?
Were the trials of the day what garnered your focus, or was that all-important
visit of "God with us"(Matthew
1:23 ) what made it Christmas to you? The greatest
visit of your life is the one where you go to meet the "Savior, who is Christ
the Lord" (Luke
2:11 ).
If you haven't already made that trip, know that it isn't a
long one. You don't need to go to Bethlehem or bring gifts as the wise men did.
You can simply meet Him through prayer. If you haven't already, why
not accept Jesus as King of your heart?
