I recently met a fellow who stands about half
and inch shy of seven feet tall! What is astounding about his height is that he
was that tall his first
year in high school. You can imagine the drool puddles from the basketball
coaches who first saw him in a class? There would seem to be great advantages
having a player that tall
on your high school team.
Unfortunately, as he explained, his body had
grown but his coordination had not kept up with his height. He didn't have the
skills and physical ability
needed to play the game. Height is great, but it isn't everything, even in basketball.
God wants us to grow spiritually and in our
walk with Him. It is easy to find ourselves shooting up in certain areas while
leaving others dormant.
For instance, you may be very knowledgeable of certain Biblical teachings and
fail to apply some other basic ones.
Take heed to the words of Paul in reference
to himself and his coworkers in Ephesians
4:15, "... We are growing up in ALL aspects into
Him who is the head, even Christ" (emphasis mine). We should be taking into account
the full spread of what
it means to be a follower of Christ.
In order to grow properly, take in the milk
(1 Peter
2:2) and meat (1
Corinthians 3:2) of the Word. Be an imitator of God (Ephesians
5:1-2) as you were
a child imitating your parents and others around you.
Choose to be a team player!
